After initial difficulties regarding the ergonomics of Canon cameras I start to enjoy taken images with the 5D. I also figured out how to post process the images to get the colors and contrast I´m used to from my Nikon cameras. This is for landscapes. Regarding portraits I prefer the Canon results right out of the box. I also really enjoy the full frame sensor and it´s advantages regarding images noise, sharpness and most important how it seperates the subject from the background. I think that this is the major advantage of full frame and it´s almost one stop - I mean f4 on full frame has the same effect as f2.8 on a cropped sensor. I really love photography. In the last couple of years I concentrated mainly on bird phorography and close ups but now I want to focus on portraiture. I think this is more difficult as you have to convince somebody to be your modell and than you should be able to create an atmossphere where the person you like to photograph relax to get some good shoots. I don´t like those "cheese" or show your teeth - portraits. I like to show the real person. I like to show real emotion. Well - I guess I have to learn a lot. First of all I need some friends who let me take some pictures. Problem is: Tough some of them like photography and almost all of them would like to have some decent pictures of themselves, they don´t like to be photographed. Like me. Guess I have to build up a portfolio with some nice images to convince them.
The image shows my nephew. He is 9 years old now and probably the uncoolest thing he can think off is that his uncle takes some photographes of him. He either puts on a mask ( a very special grin ) or runs for hide. Anyway last time I was able to get this shot. It was taken indoors with natural light and it´s heavy cropped because the original shot includes his dog. The image was taken with 800ASA and I was amazed regarding the sharpness and level of detail that´s left in the crop. I´m still able to get a very nice print out of this image. I love the impression on his face and the strong eye contact makes for a bold image. Hope I will be able to produce such images on a regular base in the near future to get the portrait portfolio I would like to have.
