July 2005

Summertime is the time to travel and visit other countries. This year we did a short trip to Danmark and spent a couple of days mostly in Danmarks beautiful capital Copenhagen. Everthing was great except the weather. We had some rain and almost every day was heavily overcast - the worst light you can think of for photography. There are only two exceptions: portraiture and closeups - I like to do both but travel photography means taking images of places and for this kind of images you need good light.

The image above was taken in very good light. On our last day in Copenhagen the sun comes out in the evening for a couple of minutes. As we were at the right place I had the chance to shot a couple of frames. You can see the dark clouds in the sky. If the sun shines I really like them because the add drama and therefore are much better for the image than a cloudless blue sky. Despite the bad weather and our short stay ( less than a week ) I was able to got a couple of shots worth posting. The can be found under travel/danmark/danmark 2005.

The image was taken with my new Canon Ixus 700. I sold my Sony T3 to buy the Canon because I really love the way Canon´s compact cameras handle white balance and colors. Though I took my D2H with me I shot almost all images with the Ixus because in cities I prefer to travel light and use a small camera that I can put in the pocket of my jacket.

Because of suggestions of some guys in the dpreview-forum I tried the LS ( low sharpening ) - setting instead of my prefered vivid color - setting. I think I will change it back to vivid color for my next trip because I like to have a ready to print or post image when shooting with a compact. The vivid color - setting gives me that. I batch processed all images in PS regarding color saturation, size and sharpness.
