July 2009 |
|
A very strange July! It was the wettest July since the weather is recorded her is in Austria. It was almost the same in most parts of Europe. Regarding photography it was a quiet month with one exception: I visited the dress rehearsal of the musical Evita in the open air stage of Staatz. Thanks to Harald ( my favourite portrait model see POM July and August 2008 ) I was not only able to see the musical before the official start I was also allowed to take images during the show. Harald has become their photographer ( http://www.pbase.com/rovebeetle/evita_2009 ). It was a great experience. The musical was great and my 5D did perform just great. Because of the low light I used my 135L wide open ( at f2.0 ) all the time and used ISO speeds inbetween 800 and 3200ASA. The Canon 5D was a sensation when it came out more than 4 years ago! and image wise it is still one of the best cameras money can buy today. Beside the musical the month was quiet. I took a couple of shots during an extreme rainshower with my Panasonic FT1. There was no way to use anything but a underwater camera in these conditions. And a very nice "over the cloud" shot on my way back home from a business trip to Switzerland. In this July you had to be over the clouds to see the sun.
