November 2007 |

November in Austria usually is grey, wet and cold. This one was no exception to this rule but on 1st of November ( all saints day ) it was quite different. It was a wonderful day. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the leafes of the trees were all yellow, orange and red. I tried to capture the mood and the power of the sun. After a very wet October and with a very grey November in front I just tried to get as much sun as possible. I soaked it up with me eyes, my skin and my mind on this Golden Autumn Day. Sounds familiar? It´s inspired be Van Morrision and "Golden Autumn Day" is the name of the song. My wife and I walked around in Neulengbach ( a small town near the place where we will live in the very near future ). I just took my Canon 5D with the 24-105L lens attached. I cannot praise this combo high enough. Kit lenses or standard lenses are usually just a compromise - nothing to be too exited about. But this lens is different. It is extremely versatile because 24mm is wide on a full frame camera and 105mm shot at f4 gives you enough background separation because of the shallow depth of field on the large sensor. It is very well made and the optics are great. It has IS ( image stabilisation ) and fast and reliable AF. It has become my most used lens and it´s a great option for traveling light with just on lens. Actually this lens and the 4/70-200IS were the main reasons why I replaced my stolen Nikon gear with Canon. Meanwhile I also "felt in love" with the fast Canon primes like the 35L and the 135L but the 24-105L is clearly the best when you want one lens that does it all without compromising image quality. settings for the main shots: A - Mode, 1/60s@f10, 100ASA
And here is a new image of our house - "XMAS-style". Panasonic FX100 shot at 400ASA.
