September 2005

Some people say this summer was awfull because of the rain but that´s wrong: There simply was no summer at all. This "summer" was so special that I took a few days off for a trip to Majorca/Spain to get a little sunshine before the leaves start to fall.

It was grey and cold when we entered the plane in Vienna but the sky was blue and it was warm and sunny when we left it in Palma. There were a lot of palm trees right at the airport - it was simply wonderful. We really enoyed our week in Majorca and we soaked up the sun as we were aware that it will be the last time this year to sit outside till late at night in shirts and sandals. Usually I prefer to spend my holidays in Ireland or Scotland or something similar but this time I really loved the warmth of the south.

When you travel in southern parts of Europe you usually travel light, that means that you don´t want to lug around a heavy camera either. For this trip I left my Nikon D-SLR at home and relied entirely on my small Canon Ixus 700 ( SD500 in the US ). I didn´t miss anything and really loved not to worry about expensive gear left in the room or car. If you never have tried to leave your big gear at home and took just a very small camera with you instead - try it! It is really great!

The image above was taken close to the end of our vacation. We had "dinner" at the pool of our Finca - that means we had "salt and vinegar" - crisps and spanish beer. I had Don Henleys "The Boys Of Summer" running on my Ipod, felt the summer fading away and got a little sentimental.
