Why this shot? Because I like it. Maybe not the best picture I have taken this April ( one of my busiest month with over 3.000 images ) but a nice one. Since birds became my favourite subjects I try everthing I can to get them as big in the frame as possible. Sometimes I´m so focused on getting frame filling shots of birds that I overlook the beauty of the scenery. In photography less is more most of the time. Most images are spoiled because it was tried to include as much as possible in one image. Photography is the art to edit out things. Just one or a few colors instead of dozens, just one subject, just one part of the image in focus, ... these are the ingredients of successfull images. But on the other hand sometimes it is great to look at an image with a lot of things to discover. In this picture there is a lot to see: the birds ( especially the flying black-headed gull or the swan in the background ), the reflections on the water, the leafless tree on the left and the trees in the background - The only thing that makes sure that this images doesn´t become too busy is color. There are only a few shades of brown. If you click on the image and take a look at my picture of the month-folder you will see that most of them have only one color or one dominant color. No matter if it is blue, green, red or white - the most successful images are nearly monochromatic. The image was taken on the 13th of April at the Schrändlsee/NP Neusiedlersee Seewinkel. It was taken right before sunset where colors are very nice and contrasts are low.birds Settings: A-Mode, 1/320s@f8, -0.5EV, WB: cloudy -3 |
