December 2004

Second month with my new camera. Though December was very busy regarding work in the office and the weather wasn´t nice ( no snow, just fog and rain ) I took a lot of images. The reason why I choose this one ( beside the reason that I really like it ) was that the D2H + SB800 combo gave me back flash photography. I never used flash very often back in my Velvia and Kodakchrome-years and bought one after 10 years of shooting without flash just to be able to take indoor shots of my nephew. I soon realized that flash images can look very well and not "flashy". The D1 was a drawback in this regard as even the SB-80DX didn´t work properly with it. Now, thanks to i-TTL, the SB-800 flash on my D2H works just perfectly - just like in the good old days.

It´s the second time I took an image of Leonie for the picture of the month. The first one was back in July 2003. She will become two years old next February. The image is uncropped and unchanged though I think about cloning out the enoying background. The blue on white chequered pillow of the "feeding"-chair really hurts the eyes even of it out of focus. As these chairs are a very good chance to get good images of otherwise fast moving kids the manufacturers of these parts should put a little more attention on the design of the fabrics. I think I will wrap a piece of fabric over the chair next time.
