June 2003

Why this shot? If you look back to my POM August 2001 the subject was also a grasshopper - but this time I had my D1 + 3.5/180 Sigma Marco with me. Back in August 2001 we searched for a place to live and now we found it. It is a small plot of land outside of Vienna. There is no house on it now but we plan to build one within the next three years. In the meantime it is the perfect location for shooting insects and birds because it is a meadow with old fruittrees and bushes. This place is full of life compared to an ordinary trimmed garden.

In Europe the density of population is very high. Industry and farming leaves little space for nature. With our gardens we can help to protect our nature if we avoid pesticides and allow the grass to grow a little higher in some corners. Our neighbours in Germany have about 17 million gardens or 7.000 square kilometers of land - this is bigger than all German Nationalparks together. So we really can make a difference regarding the conservation of our flora and fauna.

The image was taken on the 15th of June in our garden. As we will spend a lot of our future sparetime in our garden I will add a GARDEN - folder soon.
