September 2003

August and September were very busy months. Not regarding photography - we had a lot of work to do in our garden. First we built a little cabin were we can store the lawn mower, the chain saw and all the other stuff we need in our garden. Then came the harvest: plums, pears, apples and walnuts.

A lot of work to do and not much time left for photography. I didn´t take any pictures except on two days were I took images of the trees in my garden. This is one of them. Though I bought the 70-200VR in April and took thousands of images with this lens I´m still amazed about the bokeh ( the way the lens renders the out of focus areas ) of this lens. In this sample the out of focus background almost looks like an impressionists painting. In images like these with a lot of highlights in the background it is very easy that the image is spoilt if the lens render this area not "soft" enough. Try this kind of image with the AF-S 2.8/300 D stopped down to f8 and you know what I mean.

The image shows a detail of our apple tree.
