In September I took a lot of images. First I shot my first ( and last wedding ) and than I travelled to Venice and shot around 1.000 images within 2 days with my new Canon S60. The wedding was very special because a close friend asked me to be his best man and capture the event as well. Being a witness to his marriage was a honour and makes me very proud but being the photographer scared me somehow. I have never done this before and I´m not even a good portrait-photographer. To be responsible to capture their most precious day was really a hard task. I felt the pressure and the closer the day came I really wished the had hired a professional wedding photographer to do the job. Not enough I even have to shoot with a camera and flash I never used before. I borrowed a D70 from a good friend because I needed good flash exposure and wanted to get the best image quality possible. Here I was: New camera, new flash and sweating blood. Even the weather was not friendly to me that day. It was a very bright and sunny day, perfect for the couple but the worst thing for shooting portraits outdoors. But what should I say: The D70 worked just great! It was a joy to use and even with flash it worked just right. Beside the D70 I used my brand new Canon S60 and it did very well too. I took over 1.000 NEF-images with the D70 and another 160 with the Canon. This image is my favourite: It was taken during the dinner with the new Tamron SP AF 2.8/90 Macro lens I borrowed as well. I used the SB800 flash bounced against the ceiling, focused on the eyes and shot at f4. Right after the shot I knew it was the image of the day because the crop was just perfect and the expression on her face was relaxed and very natural ( because she didn´t realize that she was photographed). She just looked like an angel in that picture and there was little to do in Capture to optimize the shot. I just corrected WB and pushed the exposure by nearly 1 stop to get the colors right and gave the shot a mild high key look. After all it was a success but I think that wedding photography should be done by a professional wedding photographer. It´s an event that happened only once ( or should happen only once ) in a lifetime and the risk is simply to high to depend on an amateur. I will never ever do this again! settings: A-Mode, 1/60 at f4, SB800 flash bounced against the ceiling, exposure pushed and WB corrected in Capture |
